DISCUSSION: Achieve 3000 ~ Books At Your Fingertips

Would you rather read an e-book from a Kindle or a Nook or read from the pages of traditional paperback or hardcover book?  What are the advantages and/or disadvantages of reading electronic books?  What complications have you had from using an electronic book or downloading books from OverDrive?

  1. I personally would rather read from a e reader for books the advantages would be its light, small, and you only need one. I cant see any disadvantages besides running out of battery. over drive is like a book but i don't understand why you have to return it

  2. I have never used an ebook before, butI think that reading from a Kindle would be better, but I would have to get used to using it. The advantages are you can hold 100 books on it at one time, it would be easier to carry around, and it is more convenient to have all books in one place. The disadvantage would be that if you can check out an ebook from a library, there would be limited copies of the books.

  3. I personally would rather read from a book than from a kindle or a nook because I can’t read as fast when I’m reading a book off of the computer. I also like to hold a book and not a computer.
There are many advantages to reading an electronic book, you can make the font bigger and you can highlight. Also you can fit about 50 or more books on the kindle. On the down side you have to pay for a kindle and the books when you could just get book free from your local libraries. Also if you like to read out side or if you’re in a car and it sunny out it glares and it’s hard to read. Another down side is if you drop you kindle by accident your out a couple hundred dollars, if I drop my book nothing happens to it! I have never used one before so I don’t have an opinion.

  4. I think it'd be great to read books online on a kind or a nook, but books have something that keep you glued to it. When i'm on an ipod or and ipad and i buy a book or on the nook to buy one my mind has a little argument whether to read this... or play a game. With a book i can keep focused looking at the pages and listening to music without the temptation to switch over and play a game. The durability with the books are also better sure it gets really wet its done for but with a nook if it drops, falls in a puddle its done for good.

  5. I have read off of my friends nook once and it was the coolest thing! I really don't care which one i read off of though. The nook is super small so it can fit just about anywhere compared to a book that could be huge but then again yeah it could be small. On the nook it can hold hundreds of books and still carry it in your bag but if you want to care that many books in a bag it wouldn't fit or you wouldn't even be able to life up the bag. I agree with Sean on the disadvantage of the low battery! Also if another disadvantage is having to return the book you got from over drive and if you check out a book from the library you can keep it for as long as you need.

  6. I agree with what Halie says about the good and bad things of the Kindle. I never thought about what would happen if you read outside or drop it on the ground. I think Halie mad some good points. I also never thought about what Sean said about the low battery.

  7. I would rather read on the e-reader because it is smaller and more lightweight than the kindle

  8. I disagree with Halie because the Kindle was designed to be read and be able to be used outdoors or at night.

  9. I believe that using an electronic reader is a very interesting idea and would probably prefer it over a book, although I have never used one. Pro’s for electronic readers are that you can select from thousands of books for what I hear, free. Also pages can never get wrecked and all of your books are easily stored into one device. Cons are that it is expensive around 100$ although I would still definitely prefer an electronic reader over an average book.

  10. I think that both would be good to use for reading but a kindle would be better mainly because of the light it would give off.

  11. I disagee, I have never read from a e-book, but if I had the chiose I would proboly choose a normal book over an e-book just because it is easyer to understand.

  12. Personally, I like reading with regular, paper back books because it feels more natural and if I were to lose it, which I do a lot, I wouldn't have to pay 100 dollars to replace it.

  13. I definitely agree with Pete, I get easily bored, and with a nook or iPad I will more than likely switch over to a game and never get to reading the rest of the chapter. A regular book keeps me more focused and into the story than a nook.

  14. I think that nooks and kindles are better because they can hold thousands of books at once and are small and portable. The only downside are that when I own the books with the kindle I don't feel like I actually have the book.

  15. I think that using an actual book is better for me. Using a book, it's less complicated and easy to go trough. Using an electronic devise i think is more difficult because of the light that comes off it inter fears with my sight. One of the good things about the electronic devices is that you are able to highlight certain information from the books. Overall i think a book is a better choice for reading.
